The Name Behind Deshin Handmade: A Sisterhood of Passion and Craft

Deshin Handmade was born from the passion and love for handicrafts that grew since 2009. Inspired by the idea of her mother, the name “Deshin” is a combination of the names of two sisters: Devi and Shinta. Although at that time Shinta had not joined the business, her older sister, Milla Puspa Devi, had already taken the entrepreneurial path through a brand called Chinta Milla. The brand was the first step taken by Devi. Having an implied meaning about her love for handicraft products, she finally gave the name “Chinta Milla”.

Armed with a background in hospitality education, Devi utilized her creativity and interest in aesthetics to create various unique and artistic handicraft products. This hobby developed into a promising home business. Her journey began with making and selling small souvenirs. Later, she moved on to creating souvenir t-shirts, and over time, she was trusted to produce canvas tote bags for agencies in Batu City like Jatim Park Group, BNS, and many more. She did all of this with full dedication, even by screen printing and attaching designs to the t-shirts that were purchased ready-made.

Initially, Devi marketed her products simply. She sold Batu City-themed souvenir t-shirts in front of hotels targeting tourists, promoted her products through Facebook and the BBM app, and used a small space in her house as a product display. Devi enjoys all these activities, making her business a hobby for her to spend time.

Through this, Deshin Handmade became popular among people. Even in the midst of the limitations of the digital platform at that time, she successfully faced various obstacles through her consistency and creativity. For 10 years from 2009 to 2019, it was a phase of experimentation and strengthening the brand character. During that period, orders began to flow, from seminars, weddings, to birthday celebrations that included various products such as pillowcases, pouches, pencil cases, tissue holders, goodie bags, and so on.

As the business continued to evolve, and the MSME ecosystem grew more modern. In 2020, Devi and Shinta began to determine the direction of the brand focus and officially registered the brand through support from government programs. Today, Deshin Handmade is not only known as a brand, it is a story of love for crafts, dedication, and a long journey towards a complete identity.
