Milestones & Memories: Celebrating Our Handmade Legacy

Since its inception in 2009, Deshin Handmade has gone through a colorful journey. From just a hobby to a micro-entrepreneur who is active in various UMKM activities and prestigious exhibitions, Deshin Handmade continues to grow as a creative actor in Batu City. Commitment to quality, innovation, and cultural preservation are strong foundations in every step.

Deshin Handmade began to be actively involved in the UMKM world since 2017, joining the PKK mothers’ group and the Batu City Regional National Craft Council (Dekranasda) community. In the same year, Deshin Handmade also joined the Wahid Foundation, a women’s empowerment organization, where she received training in sewing and painting cloth. 2019 was an important milestone when Deshin  Handmade began to seriously build business legality with PLUT (Integrated Business Service Center), obtaining a business license, NIB, NPWP, and assistance from the Batu City Diskoperindag.

Deshin Handmade first exhibition with the Government Office began in Surabaya in 2019. Although the pandemic had hampered activities, Deshin Handmade was again active and consistent in appearing in various exhibitions, both local and national. Some of them are:

• Wahid Foundation Fair 2018 at Gandaria City Mall Jakarta
• Batik, Embroidery & Accessories Fair 2020 at Grand City Surabaya
• Batu Dekranasda Exhibition at Singhasari Resort Batu in 2020
• Batu Nusantara Tourism & Creative Economy Expo (Hybrid Event 2022)
• Batu Business Festival 2023

• Among Tani Batik Exhibition 2023
• Indonesia Festival 2023
at Gwanghwamun Store, South Korea (products brought by representatives)
• Kriyanusa 2024 at Jakarta Convention Center
• Jatim Fest 2024 at Grand City Surabaya

Along with the pressure and challenges from the MSME community, Deshin Handmade began to focus their identity as a producer of unique, environmentally friendly, and Batu City-style handmade cork bags. Now, each of Deshin Handmade works is not only a craft product, but also a symbol of the journey of creative women in elevating local values to a wider arena.
